Why Should I Drink Water?

The Facts
What element unites every living thing on this planet? That's right, water! The human body is made up of about 60% water and this water is essential to the functioning of every organ and process in the body. What's the point? Our bodies are constantly using and losing precious water. So re-hydrate!

The Routine
Every one has heard that we need to take in at least 8 glasses of water a day. But who really drinks that much water, right? Drinking 8 glasses of water a day can seem like a lot, but this task can be a bit easier if you are consistently drinking water throughout the day. Do not just drink water at meal times. Keep a water bottle with you throughout the day and keep refilling it with water. If you take a gulp every few minutes or so, you will be consuming your 8 glasses a day in no time. And don't wait until you are thirsty to decide to get some water in. Remember, feeling thirsty is a sign that you are already dehydrated. So drink your water often.

With all of the sugary, caffeinated, high-fructose corn syrup saturated drinks on the market, it is difficult for us to regulate our drinking habits and only consume water. But after making water consumption a habit, drinking only water will be second nature to you and this will take a lot of the stress out of the ordeal. If you only carry water with you, you will get use to only drinking water. And when you get use to only drinking water, it becomes a habit to actively seek water as a beverage instead of soda, juice, or tea. So practice replacing other drinks with water.

Staying healthy does not happen by accident. We must make a conscious choice to put good things in our bodies and eliminate things that can negatively impact our health. So start replacing other types of drinks with water. When you are at the grocery store, instead of buying juice or soda, buy extra water. This way, you will not have a bunch of unhealthy drinks staring you in the face when you are searching your refrigerator for something to drink. When you are out to eat or in the drive through, chose water over soda or tea. And don't worry about getting contaminated tap water. Most restaurants as well as fast food restaurants carry bottled water that you can purchase instead of fountain drinks.

The Benefits
If dedicating yourself to drinking a healthy supply of water seems like a big task, just remember the health benefits and what you will be gaining on the inside. Drinking an adequate amount of water will give you healthier looking skin and eyes. It will detoxify your body and cleanse your internal organs. It will also help you lose weight if you drink a glass of water when you start to feel a bit hungry; this will help you go longer between meals. It will give you extra endurance during your workouts and help you sleep better too.

The Challenge
Don't believe me? Challenge yourself to drink nothing but water for the next week. I guarantee that you will feel and look healthier. Once you start drinking your 8 glasses a day, you will also be able to notice when you are not getting enough water and your body will naturally start to crave it. So grab a glass of water and enjoy. Your body will love your commitment to hydration.

Good luck on your journey and stay healthy!
